This weekend we celebrated the end of my 5th travel season by taking the train to Chicago. My job is crazy during the fall. It’s during the fall that I spend hours in my car driving to visit all 55 of my high schools and attend all of the college fairs in my area. I know I’m lucky because I have the “home” territory in my office, and most evenings I get to spend at home in my own bed. Even knowing how lucky I am, the days are still long and draining.
During my travels I get to meet some interesting people. I’ll share a few of those characters with you:
The car salesman:
At another private University, there’s this representative who I’m certain doesn’t know what he’s selling. He’s a smooth talker who is just sure that his University is perfect for you and you and every single other person in the room.
The kid who shoots for the moon:
At one college fair a young man walked up to me and asked if we offered a major in mixology. Really!?! Number 1, you don’t study that at a four year school and Number 2, I work for a Southern Baptist University. Seriously!
The kid who watches too much TV:
Excuse me m’am, do you have a degree in forensic anthropology? “No, but we do have a great theatre department,” is the response I wanted to offer. Kid, please don’t tell me you want to be like the shrink on Law And Order or you want to study CSI.
So there you go, my excuse for the months of silence.
